Sale Day at University District Farmers Market

There’s a lot of great things about summer- the rush of adequate Vitamin D levels in your bloodstream, the sound of my laughter while I listen to native Seattlites complain about the heat when it’s 81 degrees in August, the sweat dripping off my cold-brewed coffee in the morning, and the fact that I basically spend now through September stuffing my face with fresh berries, cherries, peaches and figs (in that order, seasonally) that I purchase in droves from the numerous farmers markets around town. With the technical onset of summer upon us, it’s time to start rejoicing in the bounty of yummy produce that we’re lucky enough to have such amazing access to. And this Saturday, June 23, it’s all extra affordable too, because Seattle’s original farmers market in the U-District is hosting Sale Day!

The berries are coming... the berries are coming...

Sale Day is exactly what it sounds like. One special Saturday per year, every vendor at the U-District Farmers Market (which was, oh nothing, recently named one of the Top 10 Farmers Markets in the country by a little ditty called Forbes Magazine) comes to the market armed with at least one item on sale. That means that the delicious fruits, veggies, cheeses, meats, fish, honey and more is extra-friendly to your delicate pocketbook.

What kind of deals can you expect? Well, for the most up-to-date information, make sure you give the U-District Farmers Market’s Facebook page a like (and go ahead and like us too while you’re there). But we already know that you can score 2 bags of leafy greens from Nash’s Organic Produce for just $5 and $1 off fresh sheep’s cheese from Willapa Hills Farm (and I can vouch for the yumminess of this cheese). There will be a ton of other deals to be found (and I’ll update this post as I hear more), but do you really need more motivation to get your butt to the farmers market this weekend?

So now you know what you’re doing this Saturday. After you bring home your haul, maybe you’ll even have time to catch the ferry to Bainbridge for some celebratory wine tasting at Bainbridge Uncorked! In the meantime, talk to me about your favorite neighborhood farmers market and farmers market vendors on Facebook, Twitter or in the comment section below. We’re looking to shine a spotlight on our favorite farmers market vendors in some upcoming posts- tell us who you love visiting every week!
