Yay-Today started as an effort to get our dearest, sometimes slightly antisocial (this is Seattle after all) friends and acquaintances in the know about all of the amazingly cool stuff that goes on around here that doesn’t cost a fortune. So it should come as no surprise that we’re huge fans of Dishcrawl, a group that’s dedicated to exploring Seattle via all of the delicious restaurants that we have in our fair city. (I mean, it’s pretty natural that we’re obsessed with something that gets you dinner and good company for $30). So we’re really excited to be able to give away two FREE tickets to Dishcrawl’s January 31 Ballard event.
We’ve gushed about Dishcrawl before. Dishcrawl takes you on a culinary journey of different parts of the city once a month for around $30 a pop. So far they’ve conquered Capitol Hill (twice!) and held a special holiday soiree at Local 360. On Tuesday, January 31 they set their sights (and stomachs) on Ballard. Actual locations are top secret- the meeting place isn’t even revealed to ticket holders until 2 days before the event. But considering the caliber of some of their previous dining destinations (Grim’s, Blue Moon Burgers and Bako, just to name a few), and remembering that Ballard has recently enjoyed a string of seriously delicious restaurant openings (evidently the B in Ballard is for BBQ), you can pretty much trust in the fact that you’ll end the night fat and happy for just $30 a ticket.
Of course, if you’re the lucky winner of our giveaway, you get to be fat and happy for FREE. The nice folks at Dishcrawl gave us 2 tickets to give away to a lucky reader. That’s right- you and a friend get to spend an entire evening inhaling the finest eats Ballard has to offer. Don’t worry if you’re a vegan or have an allergy that usually excludes you from these things- just let the organizers know when you buy (or win) your ticket and they’ll happily accomodate allergies, vegetarian-style leanings, etc.
Entering is easy. If you’re a dedicated Yay-Today reader, you probably know the drill. And if you’re new, then here’s how we play… (Oh, and hi!)
On your marks, get set, GO! The contest runs until midnight on Wednesday, January 25, and we’ll announce the winner Thursday morning. Good luck! And remember to tell your friends- why not share our post on facebook? I mean, if your friend wins a contest you told them about, they pretty much HAVE to take you.
ONE favorite restaurant in Ballard??? No fair! I’ll go with La Isla with Bastille, Vera’s and the Peoples’ Pub close on its heels. Thanks for the heads up on DishCrawl. Sounds fab. JJ
Looooove the Walrus and the Carpenter!
I love so many! I’ll go with Cafe Honore today, just because I’m craving pastry.
My favorite Ballard restaurant is The Walrus & the Carpenter!
We really liked Thaiku, but now it’s gone. I think that leaves Volterra as our favorite fancy and King’s Hardware for our favorite casual hangout joint.
OCHO by far! I’ll never figure out how they make so many delicious things come out of that tiny kitchen.
I like Bastille Cafe & Bar.
I’m going to pick Senor Moose because I dream about their huevos divorciados.
I love the Walrus and the Carpenter! Great cocktails and super fresh seafood! I <3 oysters and this is my fav place to get them in Seattle!
I love La Carta de Oaxaca and Staple & Fancy!!
Well, if I have to pick just one – The Walrus and the Carpenter. Their food is divine and I’ve never tasted such naturally flavorful dishes anywhere else!
Golden Beetle!
Savour! Best sandwiches made out of the best ingredients.
I’m still very new to Seattle (moved here in Oct), and I have tried only two restaurants in Ballard so far (because there are so many awesome restaurants, bars and cafes in Seattle!
). Anyway, I liked Ray’s Boathouse very much.
Mike’s Chili Parlor!
Hi-life is on regular rotation but loving Boars Nest BBQ at the moment and flying squirrel pizza at the Sunset.
wow! such a big ?… Bastille, Ocho, La Isla… and of course in the morning, Cafe Besalu.
Golden Beetle has never done me wrong.
The Walrus and Carpenter
Root Table is my new favorite.
It depends on my mood! For casual it would either be Ocho, India Bistro, Plaka, or La Carta de la Oaxaco. For a more upscale night out, Volterra or Bastille.
The Sloop! Does The Sloop count as a restaurant?
My favorite is The Walrus & the Carpenter.
La Isla’s HH!
I love love LOVE People’s Pub. They have great German food and beer for cheap. There’s an awesome pub/restaraunt section in the front with board games, a juke box, and a cool place for the thirty somethings to take their kids and have an Ayinger Brau Weisse. In the back there’s a dimly lit, raucous on the weekend full bar with adequate seating which is perfect for 20 somethings to chat about how “legit” that rockabilly show at the Tractor was.
I’m a Delancey girl, through and through! Love Molly and Brandon and their whole crew!
Give me Bastille any day!
My favorite restaurant in Ballard has got to be Bastille. The first time I went there was for breakfast and they had the most amazing lavender french toast!
Does Paseos count!? Too many great restaurants — Bastille, Walrus & Carpenter, La Isla, Carta de Oaxaca, Monkey Bridge, and the list goes on!
Walrus & the Carpenter!
La Carta de Oaxca!! Oh dear. Now I am craving it!
Fav Ballard restaurant is Moshi Moshi Sushi. The Sushi is awesome & the bartenders are creative with their drinks!
I’m sorry I don’t have a favorite Ballard restaurant– I HAVE THREE. Prior to the opening of La Carta de Oaxaca, I had to travel all the way down Highway 99 to Coliman Family Restaurant if I wanted to get legit Mexican food. Thankfully, Ballard now has what I consider to be the unparalleled triad of incredible Mexican food (if you throw Crown Hill’s Esperanza in). La Carta de Oaxaca is plain incredible. It’s like the best taco truck you’ve ever been to turned into the most inviting, tastiest restaurant. For a different region of Mexican cuisine, I can wholeheartedly recommend Senor Moose Cafe whose dinners are divine, but whose brunch has not one, but TONS of different styles of migas.
Do I want to spend an evening exploring more of Ballard with Dishcrawl, oh hell yes.
strange that you are the only person so far gniettg this bug? perhaps you have two catablog folders in your plugins folder or you have declared a function somewhere in your theme or in one of your other plugins that has the same name. could you try activating the plugin with the twentyten theme enabled and no other plugins activated and see if it works. thanks.
