Weekend Round-Up: January 20-22

Holy Snosanity 2012, Seattle. Are y’all surviving? More importantly, are you enjoying the crap out of this weather? My days have been filled with sledding, ice walks, frolicking snow dog, building Snow Trogdor, and more cups of coffee than you can shake a snowman at. This Texas girl is in love with our city all the time, but especially when everything is covered in frozen, sparkling, snowy white. If snow were a celebrity, it would be Keanu Reeves. You either love it or you’ve spent the past few days growing more and more stabby.

Fear not, Seacicles. Your weekend approaches, bringing temps in the 40s and plenty of rain, melting all this snowy goodness into a mere memory. (Wistful sigh.) Whether you’ll spend the weekend mourning the big melt or celebrating the return of the roads, we have plenty of events to keep you busy. So let’s do this.

-As is becoming my favorite Yay-Today weekend round-up tradition, the weekend starts with a free wine tasting.

-Just added! Score FREE tickets to Oklahoma. Brave the slush and line up outside the 5th Ave. Theater Saturday morning at 8am and you’ll get FREE tickets to the February 5th showing of this classic musical. Limit 4 per household; 2,100 tickets available.

-Cro-Magnun Pictures Retrospective at the Jewel Box at the Rendevous. See such films as “Mythical Proportions” and “Man Talk.” $8 advance, $10 at the door.

-I love birthday parties. And Olympic Sculpture Park. But mostly I love Olympic Sculpture Park when they are throwing a huge (FREE) birthday party to celebrate 5 years of being all sculpture-y and awesome. Go, eat cupcakes and caramels, and celebrate.

-I also love soup and with the weather being so cold, have been craving soup like crazy. Satisfy those cravings (and give to others) at the CHS Soup Swap. Bring six quarts of soup (separated into six containers) and take home six new, different quarts of soup.

-Celebrate the Lunar New Year (which happens officially January 23) and welcome the year of the dragon with free admission to Wing Luke Museum.

-FRIES. Go to SAM Taste between 6 and 8pm on Saturday night for their cocktail contest. Not a mixologist? No worries. Go, watch, sample, and receive an order of fries (FREE FRIES) if you say you’re there to support the finalists.

-Sunday at Tavolata: free bowls of rigatoni with spicy Italian sausage, just to celebrate the restaurant turning five.

-Glow in the Dark Capture the Flag at Cal Anderson. From 6-9 Sunday night, join in a massive neighborhood game of Capture the Flag. While wearing glow in the dark stuff. Awesome.

-Finally, our friends at Century Ballroom continue their View and Chew series with The Big Lebowski. Go, order tasty food, and remember: the Dude abides. Doors at 7:15. Movie starts at 8pm.

That’s your weekend, darlings. Please enjoy every single thing you decide to do. Did we miss something? Comment! Let us know on Facebook and Twitter what events were your favorites. And stay warm!
