Handmade Valentine Swap

Do y’all remember what Valentine’s Day was like when we were kids? Nobody put pressure on us to make fancy dinner reservations. We didn’t have to buy extravagant gifts. Cheesy diamond commercials were never directed at us (I’m looking at you, Kay Jewelers). We didn’t even have to worry about forgetting the day itself because how would we ever forget a day that included a class party? The only stress I remember is trying to convince my mother to let me buy a bag of candy to hand out with my box of valentines I’d give away to the kids in my class. Everyone knew candy made your valentines so much cooler, especially if the candy was name brand chocolate. Valentine’s Day was an exciting day — everyone just waited for that moment after lunch when you could hang your valentine collector (handmade, obviously) from your desk and watch while every kid in class dropped in a valentine with your name on it (because they were required to do so! Self-esteem in a white paper bag with sparkly heart stickers!).

Good news! You can now recreate those elementary school feelings by participating in The Stationery Place’s Handmade Valentine Swap. It’s very simple. Click the link and follow the instructions to register by January 20th. You will be matched with four swap partners. Then, you either make valentines (or buy handmade valentines made by other, craftier people) and send them to your partners, with a handwritten message of love, affection, and general merriment inside.

That’s it, y’all! A fun and easy way to brighten somebody’s day, get in touch with your crafty side, AND receive mail! Bonus points if you throw in a piece of name brand chocolate. (Okay, maybe not. But I’d like you more if you did.) Still have more questions? Read this handy list of FAQs.

Sign up today, guys. What better project could you find for a potential snow day? Participate in something fun and spread a little bit of wintertime cheer. And if you want to make a valentine collector out of a white paper bag and sparkly heart stickers, you will receive no judgment from this girl. Take pictures of the valentines you send/receive and share them with us on Facebook and Twitter so we can rave about your absolutely cute craftiness. And have fun!
