Did you know dancing makes you brave? It’s true. The correlation between dancing and increased amounts of bravery has been proven in numerous academic and scientific studies I just made up in my head. Seriously though, dancing is a great way to relieve stress, release endorphins, and forget the world outside the music and movement, even if only for a little while. Dancing is my very favorite thing. Fortunately for me (and you), living in Seattle is like living in a giant, non-stop dance party — even on a Tuesday.
We have three dance parties for you tonight. First, grab your favorite dance partner and head over to the Washington Dance Club for a tango workshop followed by guided practice, led by Katie Lake. In the workshop ($12) you will improve your balance, gain confidence, and learn the basics of the tango. Leaders will learn how to better indicate direction to their partners. Followers will learn how to respond fluidly. After the introductory workshop, stay and participate in guided practice ($6) as Katie offers her expertise. She will answer your questions, demonstrate the trickier steps, and ease your confidence in your ballroom dancing abilities. She is a wonderful teacher.
Can’t get enough tango? After Katie Lake’s tango workshop, move up the hill to Century Ballroom. At 9:30, DJ Greg Constantino will be spinning the best tango beats. There will be a quick 15 minute practice session followed by all the tango your feet can handle until midnight. ($6/$4 for students)
Perhaps tango isn’t your scene or you are in the mood for a kickier party. East Hall of Century Ballroom has you covered. From 9:00-midnight, DJ Robb will be spinning the best of West Coast Swing. Find a partner and bounce, swing, and twirl your way into bravery. Thrifty bonus: pay once and hit both rooms of Century Ballroom. Two dance styles for the price of one!
There you have it, Seattle. Your Tuesday Danceday. No matter where you find yourself tonight, let go of your holiday stress and dance it out. You’ll be glad you did. Why? Say it with me, y’all. Dancing makes you brave!
