Get Figgy With it

The holidays are upon us, y’all. The lights and the carousel are up at Westlake Center, which means one thing: The Great Figgy Pudding Street Corner Caroling Competition. This Friday, over 10,000 people will head down to Westlake Center for the 25th year of the annual caroling event. Over 40 caroling groups will be competing. At this year’s event, you will find something for everyone. From formal choirs blending smooth alto with ringing soprano as they belt classic holiday carols to comedic groups to the comedic caroling group, The Carol Brunettes, who rewrite classic pop and rock songs into instant holiday classics, Figgy Pudding promises fun for the whole family.

The best part? Figgy Pudding exists as a fundraiser for the Pike Market Senior Center and Downtown Food Bank. Each group participating in the competition spends months raising money for this worthy cause. Just $65 will buy 100 hot meals for adults living in poverty. $60 pays for 100 pounds of chicken for the Downtown Food Bank.

Want to donate to a worthy cause AND enjoy a fun-filled holiday extravaganza? Come down to Westlake Center this Friday, December 2nd. Festivities begin at 5pm with Caspar Babypants on the main stage. Caroling begins at 6pm and goes until approximately 7:30, with a sing-off for awards on the main stage at 8pm. Grab a cup of hot cocoa, wander through the carolers, and get into the holiday spirit. Don’t forget to bring cash and add to the collection raised by your favorite caroling group.

The Great Figgy Pudding Street Corner Caroling Competition is a wonderful way to kick start your holiday season. I hope to see you there! Share your photos of the event on Facebook and Twitter and let us know in the comments which groups you loved the most.
