What’s the only thing worse than getting an invite to a “brown bag” meeting (one that takes place during lunch where your work is too cheap to at least feed you) on your work calendar? Getting an invite to a meeting where your work does feed you, but with really crappy food. Lunch is short- nobody should have to waste it on sandwiches with American cheese. Gourmondo’s recently sent me one of their boxed lunches to sample and review. They offer more than 30 boxed lunch options, so lack of variety isn’t an issue. I went with the Cyprus Grove Salad, which they describe as a mix of sauteed prawns, jicama, cucumber, shredded carrots, peppers, fennel over romaine and Napa cabbage with Cyprus Citrus Vinaigrette. Sounds delicious, right? Well, it was way better than my last work-catered lunch, which literally involved cold cuts and Wonder Bread. The salad was fresh, the prawns (though a bit small if we’re being honest) were delicious, and basically, I love anything with jicama. The accompanying bread and butter got a thumbs up, and the petite chocolate cake was just enough sweetness to end the meal without sending me into a total sugar coma by 3:00pm.
