The Neptune Theater is Back, and Free-er than Ever

When the Neptune Theater closed it’s doors last year, Seattle wept a little. The historic theater, originally opened in 1921, was a true treasure for Seattle cinephiles. Yeah, I end up seeing most movies at my nearest comfy multiplex, but there is something magically nostalgic about old theaters. But like a beautiful butterfly emerging from a cocoon filled with really uncomfortable seats, the Neptune Theater is back and better than ever starting Sunday, September 25. And they’re celebrating with a whole WEEK of fabulous, FREE events, starting off with a Rocky Horror extravaganza that you can’t miss.

Come Sunday to watch what was once a simple single screen theater be magically transformed into Seattle’s new hot spot for live music, comedy, events and, of course, cinema. The festivities begin with the dropping of the anchor (you get it- Neptune, ocean, anchor) at 6:30pm. Once the doors re-open, slap on your fishnets and gold lame, because it’s time to do the Time Warp again at a Rocky Horror Picture Show screening. Need help with your ensemble? No worries- there will be free hair styling from Vain Salon and make-up from local artists available onsite.

But the celebration doesn’t stop there. The Neptune is hosting an entire week of FREE events, including comedy shows, local musicians, a hip hop & salsa dance party and an acoustic performance by Bobby Long. See the full event schedule here. All events are FREE and first-come, first-serve, so no pre-registration required.

As we congratulate the folks at the Neptune Theater on their makeover, we’d love to hear from you about which of their upcoming events you’re most excited about. Leave a comment below or talk to us on facebook or twitter!
