Whenever I tell people that I live in Seattle, one of the first things they ask me is how often I go to Pike Place Market. I love that I can say that I do indeed go there fairly often- what other city boasts a tourist attraction that locals actually visit regularly? The thing is, this local treasure needs some serious love from the community in order to keep thriving. That’s why the Pike Place Market Foundation is hosting Arcade Lights on Tuesday, October 7- to raise some money and remind the community about the delicious treasures squirreled away in the deepest recesses of the Market. To do your part as a good Seattlite, you have two ways to show your support: buy a $25 ticket to the event OR volunteer your time to help run it. Both methods result in access to yummy food, beer and wine, but since volunteering is FREE, that’s what we’re pimping today.
Arcade Lights is a celebration of the food, beer and wine that comes out of the Pike Place Market. From 6:30-9:30pm on October 7, ticket-buyers will arrive and be given 10 tokens for food and drink samples, as well as a commemorative jar. (Additional tokens can be purchased for $2.50 each.) $1 of every token goes directly to the Market Foundation, so the more you imbibe, the more you help.
If you want to participate (and taste) but don’t want to put out the cash, you can still show your love for the Market (and get some good eats) by volunteering. Volunteers are still needed for Coordination, Entrance Monitoring (aka you can live out your Patrick-Swayze-esque dreams and be a bouncer), Exit Store Clerks and Runners. Besides the general warm fuzzy feeling you get from volunteering, you also get 6 FREE tokens that you can use to fill yourself up with during breaks. You also get a sweet Market Volunteer t-shirt to take home.
Interested in some hot volunteer action in exchange for some pirogi? Then email Erika.Sweet@pikeplacemarket.org and sign yourself up. Hope to see you there!
