I take back all my complaining about the weather last week. That’s right- this weekend I decided that if I head into fall with a good attitude, it might just reward me with something nice like an awesome weather forecast, a clearance sale on Fry Boots or a bumper crop of pumpkins. If you want to join me in sending out the positivie juju, then I suggest you kick off fall by celebrating the Autumnal Equinox at the Luminiata Lantern Parade this Thursday, September 22 at Greenlake.
The Luminata Lantern Parade has been welcoming the Autumnal Equinox with art, lights, lanterns and music for eleven years. It’s organized by the Fremont Arts Council, the same group of nature-loving artists who host the Summer Solstic Fair every year, but it’s a far cry from that sunny debauchery. Instead of naked bicyclists and free-flowing beer, they welcome in Autumn with a floating parade, flying lanterns, cookies, warm apple cider and soft music. Oh, and glowing everything! The Luminata Lantern Parade is a festival of glowing sparkly goodness, so feel free to show up in your finest LED accessories.
The parade starts at 7:00pm at the South end of Green Lake at the Small Craft Center & bleachers. Show up, admire some costumes, and then follow the marching bands as they start the trek around the lake. Make some friends, gasp at some floating lanterns and get all warm and fuzzy about the change of seasons. It’s one of those opportunities to feel decidedly happy that you live in Seattle.
