Weekend Round-Up: 9/16-9/18

Oh September, how you toy with my emotions. You start off with promises of delivering a slightly late version of the summer we never had, give us two glorious weeks of shortie-short-wearing, backyard bbq-in glory, and then seemingly overnight just snatch it all away and get people talking about pumpkin lattes and Halloween costumes. Hmph. Well, you’re lucky that this weekend’s list of awesome goings on has enough to keep me from getting angry. You don’t want to see me get angry. Here’s the skinny:

  • Park(ing) Day is today! All over the city, boring old parking spaces and commercial-use lands get magically transformed into awesome mini-parks. Go play in your new local park before it disappears!
  • Drown your September sorrows in meat at Wallingford’s Wurst Fest. Admission to the porkapalooza is free and I hear they may have some sausages for sale, as well as music, kid’s activities and more.
  • There’s a new street food festival in town and they look mighty organized. The Mobile Food Rodeo is bringing more than 20 trucks from Seattle and Portland to Interbay. If you want to spend Saturday eating your heart out, buy your tickets online to save $$ and score a FREE tasting. And there is still time to help Trophy Cupcakes design a new flavor- get creative by 3pm today (Friday, Sept 16) and you could win a year of FREE cupcakes!
  • Conor Byrne, my favorite Irish pub in Seattle, is hosting a FREE spaghetti dinner tonight at 9:00pm. This doesn’t make any sense to me at all, but it’s free, so I’m a fan. Eat some Irish spaghetti while you listen to a FREE show from Blvd Park, the Defibulators and Dodgy Mountain Men.
  • Finally, spend Sunday giving some love to some of Seattle’s greatest performers at the Pike Place Busker Festival. Because, honestly, what’s better than sipping a pumpkin latte on a crisp fall day listening to local street performers? Dammit, I think fall just sucked me in.

Have a great weekend everyone! Tell us what you’re up to during the next few days by hitting us up on twitter, facebook or in the comment section below. You can even send Barrie, half of the dynamic duo at yay-today, big sloppy wet kisses (or just congratulations) because she’s freaking getting married on Saturday! Yup, it’s a big weekend around here.
