Before I moved to Seattle, the only seafood I associated with the Emerald City was salmon. Then, when we announced we were moving, my father-in-law suddenly couldn’t stop talking about how excited he was to come visit us and eat “famous Seattle oysters.” Since he was newly reintroducing himself to the dating scene, I was a little skeeved out by his enthusiasm for the famous aphrodisiac, but once we moved here I realized he was just more well-versed in local cuisine than myself. We do have great shellfish. So it’s not wonder that Taylor Shellfish, a long-time farmer’s market staple, is opening up a storefront in Capitol Hill’s hippest mercantile building, The Melrose Market.
The truth is, Taylor Shellfish has been open, albeit quietly, for a while now. But we’ll forgive them because they are celebrating their Grand Opening with free oysters on Thursday, July 21- and you know how we feel about free. Yup, from 1:00-7:00pm they’ll be dishing out free BBQ Oysters, teaching you how to shuck, shell and slurp bivalves of all sorts and shapes, and setting the mood with the musical stylings of a Squirrel Butter and Zizzy zi Zixxy. Hooray!
Welcome to the neighborhood, Taylor Shellfish. Flex your mussels proudly. (Bad pun, I know, but I couldn’t resist.)
