So I’m sure that you have all read about the whopping 78 minutes of summer that we’ve all enjoyed so far this year- hopefully you were outside for at least half of that. But just because we’re all wearing sweaters over our sundresses doesn’t mean that we should give up and hide indoors- we’re Seattlites, dammit, and it’s time we throw up our hoodies and brave the grey. One of the best ways to do that is to head to Olympic Sculpture Park and have a picnic in the park with Seattle Art Museum! Rain or shine, they’ve got food trucks, wine tastings, free art tours, fun activities and free music Thursday evenings now through September.
What I love about SAM’s summer events is that there is truly something for everybody. Love to eat? Come get dinner from one of your favorite mobile eateries (on the schedule this week: Rancho Bravo, Here and There Grill and Whidby Island Ice Cream). Want some wine with your taco? TASTE will have suggested pairings for you to sip on while you watch the sunset. Want some musical entertainment? Local musicians will be playing for you to groove to.
In addition to food, music and natural beauty, they’re also offering FREE Art Tours. Let a docent, museum staffer or artist show you around the park and teach you about their favorite pieces. There are also FREE drop-in drawing classes and even dancing lessons on select nights in August and September.
Seriously people, it’s time to stop complaining about the weather (at least for a while) and go out and do something. Maybe some positive energy will bring the sun back.
