Board Games in Belltown: Bedlam Coffee’s Play with Strangers

I’m normally not a very competitive person- challenge me to a race and I”ll probably get distracted by a butterfly before I reach the finish line. But when it comes to board games, especially any game that involves words, I turn into a whole other person. I make bold challenges. I trash talk. I walk with swagger. (Don’t worry, I’m not a sore loser, but I have been known to execute multiple fist pumps when I win.) Basically, I love games and am always happy when I find out about board-game-themed events around the city. So when I found out that Bedlam Coffee hosts Play with Strangers every Saturday night, I fell a little more in love with this Belltown caffeine mecca.

I’ve been a fan of Bedlam for a while now- it’s conveniently situated midway between my day job and home, so it’s perfectly situated for me to drop in midway when I walk home (you need some caffeine to make it up the Counterblance!). Not only do they make a mean iced triple Americano, they also have a super friendly staff and are big supporters of the local art scene. They always have board games available for patrons, but come Saturday night, those games take center stage during Play with Strangers.

Games are staff-led and get started around 9:00 pm every Saturday. Show up and find out which game is being featured that night or follow @BedlamCoffee on twitter to see what’s on the docket. Choices range from Candyland to Battleship to my beloved Scrabble and just about everything in between. Friendly competition, good coffee and a location convenient to end (or begin) an evening spent in some of Seattle’s finest drinking establishments? I am totally sold. And I will totally kick your ass at Bananagrams.
