Art Talk: The Sorrento Hotel Chats About Nick Cave, Dance, and Costumes

I love today’s event for a multitude of reasons: first, it has to do with the Nick Cave exhibit currently on display at the Seattle Art Museum, which I’ve seen and am pretty in love with. (Costumes, dancing and crazy music? Of course I love it.) Second, it takes place at one of my favorite places in the city to go escape, the Fireside Room at the Sorrento Hotel. Whether you go for the costume talk, the quiet escape or just because you’re a big art nerd (and there’s nothing wrong with that), you’ll love tonight’s FREE Fireside Chat at the Sorrento Hotel. Head over at 6:00 pm tonight for some expert talk about art, dance and the Nick Cave exhibit, which is going on until June 5.

Escape the dreary-again weather and slip into the cozy Fireside Room after work today to hear Sandra Jackson-Dumont (SAM’s Deputy Director of Education and Public Programs), Donald Byrd (Artistic Director, Spectrum Dance Theater) and Roy McMakin for thoughtful discussion on dance, art and Nick Cave’s Meet Me at the Center of the Earth. They’ll be sharing the inside scoop on the brilliant, but slightly-reclusive artist himself, talking about the inspiration behind the suits currently on display and the importance of dance in our modern world. If you’ve already seen the exhibit, this talk will certainly illuminate it in a whole other perspective, and if you haven’t, I’m pretty sure that this will encourage you to visit SAM as soon as possible. (May I suggest next Thursday, May 5, when you can join in on a community costume parade and get into the museum for FREE as part of First Thursday?)
