Ivar’s Lets YOU Eat Cake: Birthday Deals!

I may have officially reached the age where birthdays make me a little bit crazy, and not in a good way. Perhaps I should take a lesson from Ivar Haglund, the founder of Seattle’s local fried-fish and chowder empire, who seems to still be pretty eager to celebrate his birthday tomorrow, even though it means he’ll be turning 106. (Sure, he is technically dead, so I guess that naturally makes the aging process easier, but still.) I have to give respect to anybody who gives stuff away to celebrate his birthday.

Give stuff away? Yup, you heard me, there’s another opportunity for FREE (and heavily discounted) food to be had in this city, so I’m here to tell you all about it. All freestanding (aka, not the ones inside of a stadium) Ivar’s locations, including the fancy-smancy sit-down ones downtown, in Wallingford (my favorite) and all the way in Mukilteo (which is just fun to say to yourself after a glass of wine- Muk-il-TE-o, MUK-il-te-o), are giving away some seriously cheap (and delicious) chow. Just say “Happy birthday Ivar!” when you order any entrée and get a second one for just 106 cents!

In addition, the sit-down locations will be offering special desserts for the same low, low price all day. And if you don’t have time for a fancy dinner, their seafood bars will be giving away birthday cake to the first 106 customers at each location. Cake for breakfast? That’s what I call a birthday!
