Eat for a Cause: Local Restaurants Donate Profits to Recovery Efforts in Japan

Eating out isn’t exactly the best way to save money, so we try and encourage people to save it for special occasions. Well, when a bunch of local restaurants band together to donate proceeds- 100% of their proceeds, to be exact- to help aid victims of the slew of natural disasters that have happened in Japan recently, that’s a pretty special occasion. That’s why I want to help spread the word that local restaurant hero Linda Derschang will be doing just that all day today at her four restaurants: Oddfellows Cafe, Linda’s, Smith and King Hardware all day today.

When was the last time you heard of a business doing something this generous? I certainly can’t remember, but I’m very, very thankful for it. If you want to support this effort, and have something delicious to eat or drink at the same time, call all your closest friends, invite them to lunch, dinner or happy hour at one of these restaurants, and know that whether you’re noshing on mac and cheese from Oddfellows or throwing back a beer while you play skeeball at King’s, you’re doing something good for a lot of people who need a lot of help right now.

If you can’t make it today, visit Fresh Picked Seattle (an amazing resource for all things food in Seattle) for a comprehensive round-up of other local eateries doing their part to help disaster relief efforts.

And remember, if you want to donate even more, text 90999 to donate $10 to the Red Cross.
