Weekend Round-Up: 1/28 – 1/30

Congratulations- you’ve almost survived the first month of 2011! If you feel like things are looking up, then go out and celebrate this weekend by joining in on some of the fun we’ve listed below.  And if you’re not totally psyched about all the goodness this year has to bring, then use this weekend as a chance to put things back on the right track.  (Count that as your weekend mediation for the day kids.)

  • Blow the socks off of your inner child with some truly kick-ass Lego sculpture.  Vermillion hosts a Lego Spaceship Face-Off tonight.  Voting starts at 6:00 pm and the winner is announced at 10:00 pm.  (Friday, 1/28, 6:00 – 10:00 pm)
  • Rock out at the FREE Severed Heads show at Easy Street Records in West Seattle on Saturday. (Saturday, 1/29, 6:00 pm)
  • If your list of New Years Resolutions included “learn a new skill”, spend Saturday morning learning how to sew for FREE at Goods for the Planet, courtesy of Sew Up Seattle.  (Saturday, 1/29, 11:00 am)
  • The Lunar New Year doesn’t officially happen until February 3, but you can start celebrating early on Saturday in the ID.  The Lunar New Year’s Celebration happens from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm and includes free music, parades and Lion Dances.  Foodies will appreciate the Lunar New Year Food Walk, where restaurants from all around the ID will offer their best bites of food for $2 each!  The Year of the Rabbit sounds like it’s going to be delicious.  (Saturday, 1/29, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm)
  • Pike Place Market isn’t just for tourists. Learn the ins and outs of this local jewel by participating in Around the Market in 80 Minutes, a FREE scavenger hunt where you can win gift cards and sample some delicious snacks. (Sunday, any time between 11:00 am – 4:00 pm)
  • Admire some of the best facial hair in Seattle at the Beard and Stache Fest’s Kick Off Party at Blue C Sushi in Fremont.  (Sunday, 1/29, 8:00 pm – 10: 00 pm)
