Weekend Round-Up: 1/21-1/23

I hope I’m not jinxing myself, but this weekend’s forecast looks almost bearable.    Well, it may not be warm enough to run to the beach, but it’s definitely a sign from the gods that you absolutely are not allowed to stay cooped up inside.  So what should you do instead of watchvmultiple seasons of the Skins on Netflix streaming?  (By the way, the UK version has the first 3 seasons online and it’s amazing- think Degrassi with a British accent and more nudity.  Put it on your queue and save it for the next rainy weekend.  Thank me later.)  Here’s the weekend’s agenda:

  • Sunset Tavern is hosting a Hall and Oates Tribute tonight and it sounds pretty amazing.  For $7, see some pretty fantastic local bands perform covers of the “rock and soul” duo’s  greatest hits.  Feathered hair highly recommended.
  • If this week has been particularly brutal, start your weekend with a little inner peace via a FREE guided meditation workshop from the Center of Light (7:00 – 8:30 pm).
  • My pick of the week: Sunny weather makes tomorrow the perfect Saturday to check out the Georgetown Trailer Park Mall.  Shop for some vintage treasures or handmade kitsch, grab a falafel from Hallava Falafel (or sample some of the other street food vendors who congregate there, like the Skillet and Where ya at Matt), and explore the amalgamation of airstream trailers.
  • Century Ballroom is hosting a free screening of Happy Feet Friday night!  Dancing penguins will definitely start your weekend off on a good note.
  • If you’re craving a weekend in wine country but can’t afford the whole shebang, scrounge up $5 and head to Sammamish, where Fivash Cellars is celebrating the opening of their new winery.  They’ll be offering tastings, free music, hors d’oeuvres and more all weekend long.
  • Just added! Every day is a good day for pie, but Sunday, January 23rd is National Pie Day.  Head to the Salmon Bay Eagle’s Club in Ballard for a Pie-stravaganza.  Music, coffee, and pie will be provided.  Admission is $10, or FREE if you bring a pie to share.

Some kind of pie party is happening in Ballard this weekend! Free entry with pie in hand and it’s for charity! :)

thanks kat! i’ll add it to the list. mmmmm… pie.
(ps- don’t google “pie festival” without a geographic marker. you get non-food-related results.)
