Hot dog eating competitions? Been there. Pie eating contests? Done that. Here in Seattle we take competitive eating to a whole new level- one that will prove to be both delicious and entertaining- with The Cream Puff Munch Off, a contest that pits one heavily bearded public contender against two furry musicians to see which man can down the most Beard Papa Creampuffs in 3 minutes.
The Cream Puff Munch Off takes place on Thursday, September 23 at 6:30 pm at The Little Red Hen in Green lake. Hosted by Voracious, Seattle Weekly’s food blog (which I can’t read in the afternoon because it makes me hungry), the contest features two local celebrity contestants, Matt Badger of Ravenna Woods and Andrew Chapman of The Keeper, facing off against an unknown bearded competitor.
But most importantly, the Cream Puff Munch Off features Beard Papa’s, aka the best freaking cream puffs in the whole world. If you haven’t had the delight of a Beard Papas cream puff, then you are seriously missing out. Go to the food court in Uwajimaya (it’s a Japanese franchise, so you Francophiles can stop your bragging now), look for the adorable yellow logo with a jolly bearded cartoon man, and buy a cream puff. Savor the magic of not-too-sweet, delightfully rich cream wrapped in a fluffy pastry shell.
Only then can you fully appreciate the bravery of these fine, bearded men, and their soon-to-be distended bellies.
Entrance to the Cream Puff Munch Off is FREE and drinks at the Little Red Hen are totally reasonable. So go raise a glass, and a puff, to gluttony and facial hair!
