Need to feel like a kid again? Then call in “sick” to work one day this week, get thee a kite and head up to Long Beach for the Washington State International Kite Festival (WSIKF). This award-winning kite-stravaganza (yes, there are awards for kite festivals) is a week long celebration of all things… well, kite.
WSIKF features everything from competitions (including fighter kites) to exhibitions to lessons. You can even learn about INDOOR kite flying, which I never even knew was possible but seems like a pretty handy skill to have in our climate. The festival also features art exhibitions, different skill demonstrations, and an attempt to set a new world record for Mega Rev Fly, in which 100 people will fly their kites simultaneously and smash the old record of 54.
So seriously, while it’s still nice enough to spend time at the beach, listen to Mary Poppins’ advice and go fly a freaking kite. Your inner child will thank you.
